What is H. pylori?
H. pylori is a common bacterial infection of the stomach that can cause symptoms such as upper abdominal pain or burning, nausea, bloating, excessive burping, early fullness, and in some cases symptoms of gastritis or peptic ulcers.
Diagnosis is straightforward and non-invasive in most cases. We offer H. pylori stool antigen testing, which accurately detects active infection.
In some cases, your GP or gastroenterologist may recommend an endoscopy for further investigation if symptoms are more complex or persistent.
If H. pylori is confirmed, treatment usually involves a short course of eradication therapy (antibiotics combined with acid suppression medication) prescribed by your healthcare provider. Follow-up testing is often recommended to ensure the infection has been fully cleared.
Diet does not cause H. pylori, but it can play an important role in managing symptoms and supporting recovery, particularly during and after treatment. A specialist gastroenterology dietitian can help reduce symptom triggers such as irritation, acid discomfort, and bloating, while ensuring your diet remains balanced and supports gut healing and overall nutritional health.
If you are experiencing persistent upper abdominal symptoms, unexplained indigestion, or ongoing discomfort that hasn't improved, booking an appointment can help you get clear answers.
With specialist testing and personalised dietary support, we can help identify the cause of your symptoms and guide you towards effective treatment and relief.
